Family Migration program allows eligible citizens and permanent residents to sponsor close family members for migration. It is designed to reunite families while ensuring sponsors can provide financial and practical support to the incoming relatives.

Program Overview

Visa CategoryDescription
Spousal & Partner VisasFor married or de facto partners (including same-sex). Lodgement options:
onshore (Subclass 820/801) or offshore (Subclass 309/100).
Parents VisasIncludes the Parent visas (Subclass 103, 804) and Contributory Parent visas (Subclass 143, 173, 864, 884). These visas are capped and queued, resulting in significant processing times (many years depending on subclass and queue position).
Dependent ChildrenFor biological, adopted, or step-children under 18, or for children over 18 who meet the dependency criteria under Includes Subclass 101 (Child), Subclass 102 (Adoption), Subclass 117 (Orphan Relative), and onshore equivalents.
Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300)Allows a prospective spouse to enter Australia to marry their Australian fiancé(e). After the marriage occurs, the applicant may lodge an onshore Partner visa (Subclass 820/801).

Key Requirements

  • Financial Capacity: Sponsors must meet the Minimum Necessary Income(MNI).
  • Undertaking Agreement: Sponsor must commit to supporting the applicant financially.
  • Health and Character Checks: Police certificates and medical exams required for all applicants.
